Today I drove from St George to Fruita a distance of 376 miles which took me about 5.5. hrs to do. I decided not to cut up thunder mountain like I normally do so I could do a longer ride in Fruita when I got there.
Below are pictures of the king bed suite I had at the La Quinta Inn in St George. The Hotel was more busy than the last time I was here (screaming kids in pool), but apart from that it was very clean and comfortable. |
The drive to Fruita was uneventful and fairly boring, but at least the rental vehicle I had had satellite radio so I could listen to lots of different music without adverts. |
I checked in at my Hotel and then drove over to the Book Cliff's I arrived at the 18rd car parking lot at 2pm, it looked like it had been raining here recently. |
I started my ride by riding up Prime Cut , the trail climbs up through meadows and then through juniper bushes to below the cliffs, the trail was much wider in places than the last time I'd visited - so much for keeping singletrack single... The trails were only damp in a couple of spots. |
At the end of Joe's ridge I cut across to Kessels Run and rode back up it. Although the trail heads up it rolls up and down enough to make the going easy. |

| I connected onto Zipity-Doo-Daa from the front side and rode down it, Zipity starts off at the top through the juniper tress and then goes up and down along a ridge |

Some of the downs are much steeper than the ones on Joe's Ridge. There was a group of riders behind me to be able to take pictures of them to give some perspective on the trail in my pictures. |

The Trail has few ups as well as downs and takes you a long way from the book Cliffs |
| Towards the bottom the trail levels out and heads back towards the 18 road parking area. I followed some other riders on the trail back to the car park. |

From the 18 road parking Lot I rode straight back up 18 road and headed off on the Chutes and ladders trail. |
This trail has some very steep up hill sections (hike a bikes with tiered legs), and plenty of fun downs as well, from Chutes and ladders I headed down the Vegetarian loop trail which is a fun fast narrow trail which heads down through the grassy meadows. |
Back at the SUV I got my lights out and then headed up backup to Joe's Ridge and had another run down that trail |
After Joe's I scooted back up the 18 road and then blasted down Kessels Run , which was great fun in the dark |
| For my Last ride I headed back up the road and came back down Prime Cut. On the way back down I had to be careful not to run over toads. |

Back at the car in the distance I could see Lighting flashing in the distance
I finished riding at about 22:30 , and headed into fruita and bought a American Classic Pizza from dominos, I then stopped off at the City market an bought some groceries before heading back to the La Quinta Inn in Fruita. |
