I had a great omelet with mushrooms, bacon and chiroza, with potatoes for my breakfast before heading out to one of my favourite riding locations in the Phoenix area Pima & Dynamite. I parked at the end of Alam school road and headed into the preserve. |
I started by heading along road 27 , and the headed west on the bail out trail, the trails around here are great fast and swoopy going up and down around big granite boulders. |
I looped back up the roller coaster trail and on the way saw this cool raptor nest next to the trail. |

At the end of the Roller coaster trail which goes up and down as the name suggests I headed back down the bailout trail and along trail 15 north |
Trail 15 is pretty cool with lots of big granite boulders and short sharp ups and downs , I just managed to stop in time when I saw this baby rattlesnake across the trail in front of me. |
I carried my bike up to Metate / Church rock, and had some food. Took the obligatory foot by indian grinding hole picture, and then got scared silly by a Huge swarm of bees which flew over head. Luckily for me they didn't fly through the rock where i was standing. It literally got dark as they went over and the noise the made was very loud. |
| From church rock I headed East along trail 24 which has a big up hill and then a great down hill section |

My route planning didn't go so well when I was North of Granite Mtn, and I ended up bushwhacking through a couple of wash's until I found a ride able trail again, On the way I saw a fairly big snake in a bush, (see pic bottom left). |
Once I got back onto some real trails I had a great ride back down trail 24, then 28 , 30 until I got back to the dirt road 27 heading back to my car. On the way I saw a big Hare. |
My Bike computer said I'd ridden 27.2 miles , and apart from the bit where I got lost North of Granite Mtn, the trails had been superb. I just love the swoopey flowing trails in this area. |
I finished riding at about 4.30pm and drove over to Performance bikes in Scottsdale to but some food and lube, then I did some grocery shopping at a Whole foods market before heading back to the resort. I dropped off my bike and groceries and then drove over to Camelback Mtn for a quick hike. |
Unfortunately I'd left it too late to climb all the way to the top of the Mountain, as there were signs saying the park shut after dark. But I did manage to get quite a way up and take in the views before heading back to the car. |
On the way back to the resort I stopped off at a Safeway and bought some water and a tub on Ben & Jerry's which I scoffed on my veranda, before going for a swim in the empty pool. |
