We had breakfast at the restaurant to the right of the Motel which was very tasty.
We then packed up and checked out and drove north on hw 50 to Buerna Vista, and then west along cr 306-> cr 209 -> cr 742 -> Jacks cutoof and finally along the 135 to Crested Butte. |
The country roads are made up of graded dirt, in places it was quite rough.
We stopped at Cottonwood pass (12,126ft) on the continental divide.
It was sunny but quite cold at the top, we went for a short hike to the top of the nearest peak to the road. Some of the path was snow covered , we saw and heard Pika's again.
We checked in to the Grand Lodge, where we had stayed on our last holiday and got a nice deluxe suite for $98. But unlike on our old visit they had no bike storage so we had to keep our bikes in the SUV.
Also you had to pay extra for internet access. |
We headed out for a hike, it was a very pleasant evening but quite cool, my leg hurt quite a lot but using poles I was able to limp along, we saw loads of deer while walking. When we got back to the hotel clare had a swim and hot tub, but i didn't as I was covered with plasters .
We had dinner at the Wooden Nickel - which very good food - but was expensive. |
