Gould Rim Trail Mountain bike ride (St George, Utah)
After a bad nights sleep because my leg kept on cramping up, I got up and had a look out the hotel window, a lot of cloud was in the sky today, and it looked quite windy. I had breakfast and then decided that I would take a day off from biking so my leg could get better. So I made some updates to this web site.
But by 2.00pm I was bored and decided to go for a ride, even though my leg was still hurting. |
I decided to ride the Gould's Rim trail , as the description said it was just a double track leading to some cool singletrack with no technical slick rock.
When I got to the start of the ride no one else was parked there and behind me a lot of black cloud was building up, with rain in the distance.
I headed up the dirt road, which climbed up gradually it was quite warm about 78f although there was quite a breeze blowing. My leg hurt a lot to start off but got better as I rode up the hill. |

The singletrack was really good, very skinny with the odd technical section thrown in for good measure, it followed the edge of Gould's canyon for a while before cutting back towards Gooseberry Mesa. As I rode I started to hear thunder, and started to see lighting in the distance, and occasional splats of rain hit me. Which encouraged me to ride even faster up the trail. |
| Eventually after a great ride with lots of atmosphere i.e. Thunder and Lighting and high winds, I came to the highway, and was just about to start the long loop by riding down the Jem trail when it started to rain heavily, as I did not know what happened to the trails in this area when it rained I decided to head back down the highway to my SUV. Including the ride down the road I did 15 miles on this ride. |
I then headed back to St George and drove over to see if Bear Claw Poppy was ride able , but it was extremely windy and looked as if it would could rain at any moment.
So I called it a day and went back to the hotel and got cleaned up, then went out for a great Mexican meal at Ponchos & Lefty's in St George.
