Mountain bike trails ridden today - Pima & Dynamite & a night ride at Sunrise MTB trail, Lost Dog Wash & Ring tail trails
I packed up all my gear and checked out, then hit the road heading off down the I70 towards Phoenix. The traffic was quite heavy , it seem 'd as though everyone was moving home that day 8-). I stopped off at a shopping complex on the way and bought some bike gloves at a Sports Chalet, and some food at a Border Book shop. I got to the La Quinta Inn I was staying at and got my stuff together to go for a ride. |
As I only had time for one ride I decided to head over to my favorite Phoenix riding location Pima and Dynamite. I got to to the Alma School road trail head at about 14:30. It was still hot when I got there about 88f but there was a wind to keep the heat down. Also the pollution which was really bad the last time I visited in December did not seem as evident. |
The trails were just as good a I remembered from the last few times I rode there, fast and smooth with steep ups and downs. I rode past slant mountain, and around the back of Cone mountain. The trails were much greener than when I last here in December, and cactus where starting to flower. Unfortunately I was too early to see the Saguaro Cactus flowers. |
As I arrived at Granite mountain, the sun was starting to set so although I had my lights with me I decided to start heading back towards the SUV. As out here in Pima you are quite a way from civilization, and I'm sure big critters like Mountain Lions must live out here. So with the large birds circling over head I decided to be sensible and head back. |
On the way back I found some great singletrack trails to scoot up and down, as there was a great sun set as I rode back.
I must admit of all the trails I rode on this holiday the Pima trails were the one I enjoyed the most, by the time I finished riding I was wishing I had arrived early, and that I had devoted more days to Phoenix. |
I then headed to a Baja Fresh and got myself some great Mexican food.
As I had my lights I decided to head on over the to trails at Sunrise, and do one last night ride. I rode the Ring Tail trail to Lost dog wash and then back down the Ring tail trail. |
It was much more pleasant riding at night in May then in December, it was nice and warm. I could hear a lot more wild life in the the undergrowth. Plus unlike in December the air quality seem 'd much better than it was in December. |
I finished riding and then went back to the Hotel, and I washed my bike with a handy hose they had outside the La Qunita, and started to pack up my gear.
