Sedona Mountain bike trails ridden, Huckabey Trail -> Jim Thompson Trail -> Secret Trails -> tea Cup Trail -> Thunder Mtn trail. Night ride -> Bell rock & llama trails
I decided to return to Sedona, to ride as I wanted to ride in an area with great views, after my very tree'y ride in Prescott. I parked up in Sedona and rode up to the Huckabey Trail. It was about 80f with a very light breeze, the conditions were quite different to when I was last here in December. |
Everything was a lot greener, cactus's were in Flower and their was a lot more in the way of wild birds and animals as I rode along the trail. |
I got down to the river crossing and this time found the correct place to cross the river, there was even a little bridge to use to get across it. |
I then rode up the trail to Midgley Bridge, and stopped to take in the views from the bridge. I then headed off along the Jim Thompson Trail, towards the secret trails. |
At one point I almost collided with a herd of deer as I came round a corner. The views all around on the ride were spectacular. |
The JT trail started to narrow and get more interesting as I got to the Secret trails area. |
I rode on through the secret trails area, and past the sinkhole and then connected onto the Teacup trail. I then rode up the Teacup trail, a technical at times trail which headed up towards the Thunder Mountain trail. The teacup trail was good fun to ride, I was planning on connecting onto the thunder mountain trail, and then onto the dry creek trails area. |
Once I reached the end of the Teacup trail I started to ride along the Thunder Mountain trail, this trail started off ok but started to get very rocky and loose going up and down deep wash's, eventually I had enough of the trail and decided to head back to the Teacup trail. At this point I saw a cool snake hiding in a cactus. The Teapot trail was more fun to ride heading back towards the secret trails. |
I headed back past the sinkhole keeping an eye out for the secret trails, i spotted a trail heading off south and went down it, and found a fun singletrack weaving in and out of the trees, it headed down in and out of a wash, eventually I ended up riding alongside the 89A. |
Eventually the trail brought me to a tunnel that went under the 89A, which I went through, then I back to where I parked my SUV. |
I then decided to drive over to the trails by bell rock , to get a night ride in. I did a loop of the Big Park, and then rode along the Bell rock pathway and then connected onto the Llama trail, which I rode a long to the Little horse trail, and then back along to the Bell rock pathway. |
The riding conditions that night were perfect, and I had a great ride. In total I rode about 30 miles that day.
When I got back to the SUV i packed my bike up, and then stopped at a garage on the way back to Flagstaff where I bought a tub of waffle cone ice cream, which I then eat as I drove back to Flagstaff. When I got back to Flagstaff I bought a great SUB from Quizonos across the road from my Hotel. |
