We decided to visit the Rocky Mountain National park, and drove along Scenic Highway 72 to Estes Park and then into the Park. We parked then caught the shuttle bus to Glacier George trail head. |
The weather was very changeable, one moment it was sunny, the next it was snowing. We walked up Glacier gorge, past Alberta falls. |
We walked up to Mill lake where we stopped and had some lunch, and admired the great views. |
We then backtracked and cut across to Dream Lake |
Views of dream lake and emerald lake. |
We hiked past Nymph lake and on to Bear Lake. We then caught the shuttle back to the SUV |
The hiking was great fun - with absolutely no chance of getting lost due to the comprehensive signs along the trails. |
We then drove out of the park up the old fall river road, an unpaved dirt road, the road wound out of the park, past several waterfalls. The road topped out at 11,000ft passing through mountain, sub-alpine and tundra vegetation as the road got higher. We saw some very large bull elk to the sides of the road, making mating noises. |
We then drove back to winter park via Winter Park and the I-70. We stopped at Idaho Springs at had a burger at Mcdonalds. |
