I woke up to another great sunny day, made myself waffles with maple syrup and bananas before heading off to my favorite place to ride in the Phoenix area Pima & Dynamite. |
| I parked up at the end of Alma school road and rode into the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. To get to the singletrack you ride along an old dirt road. |
| I then headed north round cone mountain, the trail is great here as it winds through huge granite boulders , with quite a few short steep ups and downs. |

The desert was much greener than when I'd been here before, with lots of flowers in Bloom, I was too early for the Saguaro cactus flowers though. |
Eventually I came to a dirt road that goes through browns ranch area , which I headed along, I then headed north until I arrived at Church rocks
I stashed my bike at the trail side and hiked up to Church Rocks, where I sat in the shade and eat my melted power bars. |
On the floor of Church rocks you could see where ancient indians had ground their floor in the rocks. |
| After finishing munching I rode North and then cut back south heading up Cholla mountain the climb was more eroded that the lat time I had visited but I still managed to clear it. |

Singletrack heading towards Cholla Mtn |
| I then headed around the north side of granite mountain, the trail was following a sandy wash and was quite tough, so when I saw a trail heading up the slopes of Granite mountain I took it - which lead to at least 30 minutes of hike a bike as the trail went steeply up the hill and eventually became unrideable. I finally emerged on the east side of the mountain and got back onto a fun trail which had huge cactus on either side. The Trail started to head back west. |

This trail was good lots of big cactus, and short ups and downs, eventually it headed past Mushroom rock and back towards Cholla Mountain along trail 30, where I back tracked on a trail I had ridden down previously. |

Slant Mountain in distance |
As it was getting quite hot now I stopped in shaded spot for a while, and took in the desert scenery - there were loads of small birds twittering in the vegetation, and lots of insects (non-biting). Before I continued riding back towards Slant Mountain.
Back at the start of the ride I retraced part of the ride I had already done before heading back towards Alma School riding along some great singletrack. |

Even though the riding was great I had run out of water so I decided to call it a day and headed back to my SUV. After a day of fantastic fun smooth riding. |

End of Alma School Road |

Pima & Dynamite Map |
Here is the route I took which an excellent route apart from the hike a bike I did around the NE corner of Granite mountain - if you ride this route stick to the wash don't be tempted to sneak off up small singletrack trails 8-)
On the way back to my Hotel I stopped off at a Baja Fresh at N.Frank Lloyd Wright, and stuffed my self with loads of great cheap mexican food. Before heading back to the Hotel where I had a swim and used the Hot Tub before crashing out for the night. |
