I woke up to another sunny day, and made my self banana waffles, then I packed up my stuff. Intending to go and ride some trails I had not done before over at rabbit valley. But after driving all the way over there I discovered I had left the bag with my helmet and shoes back at the Hotel, so I had to drive all the way back to Grand Junction. As I had wasted a lot of time doing this I decided to go and ride at the Kokopelli trails again. |
| There were quite a few people parked up at the Kokopelli trail head, it was quite warm and windy today. I decided to end my holiday with a long ride the Grand Traverse which takes in nearly all the trails in the area. |
First of all I rode round the Rustlers loop a trail with a variety of double track and single track, view's of the river and nothing that technical |
Next I rode up Mary's Loop an old Jeep track at this point until the Horse thief bench turning and then I hiked down to the Bench
The Horse thief bench mountain bike trail has loads of great singletrack which is smooth and fast mixed in with some technical bits. |
I hiked back up to Mary's Loop and continued riding along it towards Steve Loop, the trail turns into single track just past a spring above a cliff.
From Mary's Loop trail I turned off onto Steve's loop , a nice trail which goes round the edges of the cliffs and eventually climbs back up again to Mary's Loop. |
Steve's loop Singletrack (8 MB) |
In the pictures above you can see the trail I'd ridden along to get to this point down below.
From Steve Loop I now started to climb up Lions Loop trail. A fairly tough rocky singletrack trail. |
When the Lions Loops singletrack ends there a quite relentless climb up a dirt road before you get to the turning for Troy Built Loop.

Riding down troy Built (37MB) |
I headed down Troy Built trail, the trail is quite technical in places, and has a lot of up and downs, although I would say it has more down that up ridden the way I was going. Along the way I me a group of riders riding the wrong way and they looked like they were suffering. |

Nearing the end of Troy Built (16 MB) |
At the end of Troy built I slogged my way up the Lions Loop trail a dirt road, with loose section of rock, which climbed and climbed until I reached the turn for Mack Ridge Trail - which also continued climbing but not so steeply.
The Mack Ridge trail headed along the edge of the ridge, and had some good views. Along the way I saw another rider pushing their bike the wrong way along the trail. |
At the end of Mack Ridge trail I rode over the the Moore Fun Trail, and headed up it, as I was feeling quite tired the technical bits of the up hill sections of the trail did defeat me at times. By Now it had also got very blustery.
| The descent down Moore Fun was pretty technical in places, but overall it was good fun. At the end of Moore fun I headed back to the SUV. At the Car Park I gave my track pump away to another mountain biker as I did not have room for it in my luggage. This had been the longest ride of my holiday at about 35 miles (Distance from cycle computer which is more accurate than GPS). And it had been a tough ride, but a good way to end the holiday. |

Grand Traverse Map |
| I headed back to Grand Junction and went to a Target to buy a load of our favorite brand of toothpaste which they don't sell in England, I stopped off at a Sports Authority and bought 12 tubes of Camalbak Elixier which is also not sold in England, and then I bought some food at safeway along with some Pizza from the Pizza place near safeway. Before heading back to the Hotel where I ate my food, had a swim and then packed up my bike. |
