We
had breakfast at the Hotel and then packed up our gear before heading off towards Seattle. The Hotel had been quite comfortable to stay at, but was rather over priced due to Sequim being a popular mainstream tourist destination. |
We drove along the Dungerness scenic loop and stopped off at Oliver's lavender farm one of the many lavender farms located in Sequim
Clare bought a lavender based products from the farm shop. Which were all priced very cheaply. We then continued to drive along to Dungerness Spit. |
We stopped at a couple of view points on the way to the dungerness spit car park, we then parked and paid $3 to go for a walk along the spit.
| We walked through a forest, until we got to a view point with a telescope where we could look at the lighthouse at the end of the spit. We then went down to the beach and walked along the beach. |
There were huge piles of driftwood logs all along the beach, and lot of birds in the lagoon behind the driftwood. Eventually we headed back along the beach and back to the Car. |
We drove along the 101 to Bainbridge Island, we had to wait for the ferry for about 40 minutes, and bought some food and drinks from a vending shack at the terminal. |
We parked in the ferry and then headed up to the upper deck. |
Although it was sunny there was quite a cold wind, but the views were great. Had to stay on deck as I get sea sick very easily. |
| After the ferry docked we drove through seattle and parked near to the space needle. |
We then walked over to the Space Needle and paid $16 each to go the the top of the space needle - had a long wait to get to the elevator - the lift took 43 seconds to get to the top of the Needle. |
The views from the top were great, with 360 views of the Seattle Area. |
After queuing up for about 20 minutes we went down the elevator and then caught the mono rail to down town Seattle. |
We walked through the town down to Pikes Market, As we were in Seattle we had to get a coffee from a Star buck's, we then had a walk around Pikes market, there were some amazing stalls selling huge salmon and crabs and loads of other stuff. |
We then walked back to the car on the way we stopped at a Thai restaurant where we had an ok meal. We then walked back to the car via the Seattle center. It was a very nice sunny warm evening something we hadn't been expecting with Seattle reputation for rain. |
| We then drove 100 miles south to Woodland and checked in to the Best Western, I'd booked a King suite over the internet - the guy behind the counter was suprised at how low the rate was compared to what he charged for walk-ins, I had a swim in the Hotel pool, before ringing a contact I had made via www.mtbr.com to arrange a ride on Mt St Helens. |
