As all the roads in the area we were staying were going to be closed for the Sella Ronda Bike day. An event where the main road linking the 4 passes are closed to all motorized vehicles. We decided to rent mountain bikes from our Hotel and do the ride ourselves. After managing to track down a pump, and adjusting the rented clunkers the best we could and set off on the ride |
The first pass we climbed to was Passo Pordoi (2239m), surprisingly even though our bikes were heavy and had fat tires , we managed to get to the pass with out too much effort. It was a nice warm sunny day, although we did put on wind proofs as we went down the mountain roads. |
After an exhilarating downhill we then climbed up to Passo Sella (2244m) |
After another great downhill we climbed up to Passo Gardena (2134m). The ride was a great experience , with the only noise being from other riders, whereas normally the roads are very busy and smelly with diesel fumes. |
On the way down to Corvara I got stung by a bee on my leg, so we stopped for a cold drink at a cafe in Covarar before climbing up to Pass Capolongo (1875m) |
We then rode back down to our hotel in Arraba, I then decided to take advantage of the empty roads and rode back up to Passo Pordoi, and my wife went for a walk in the wild flower meadows and took some pictures of the flowers. When the roads were re-opened I decided to head back to Arraba as riding on the roads is not that pleasant with all the cars, trucks and motorbikes on them. |
